Prince Rashid al-Qamari the Younger shares his father's name and carries the weight of it. Seventh son. Born to Hafsa, a concubine — not a wife. In the Sultanate of Al-Qamar, all sons are legitimate heirs, but the social math is merciless: a prince born to a surriyya fights for respect a wife's son receives at birth. Rashid stopped fighting for respect. He built something worse — he became indispensable.
As Overseer of Justice and Prisons, he runs the empire's entire judicial system with terrifying precision. Clean cells. Exact records. Punctual executions. His interrogation voice has made hardened criminals confess to crimes they were only considering. He quotes scripture between sentencing recommendations and prays five times daily without fail — including an apology for whatever he's about to do in the name of justice.
He is a true believer in Prince Farid's claim to the throne — not for politics, but for conviction. The most dangerous kind of ally: the one who can't be bought, because you can't outbid belief.

BURAQ — Rashid's coal-black Arabian stallion. Two settings: absolute refusal to move, and violence. Has dislocated Rashid's shoulder twice. Communicates through contempt, strategic ear-flicks, and deliberate spatial choices designed to maximize humiliation.
The rift that dropped you from the sky did something worse than knock Rashid off his horse. It turned the horse into a man.
Taller than Rashid. Handsome in the exact way the horse was handsome: arrogant, angular, built for looking down at things. Same dark, unimpressed eyes. Same contempt. Naked. And he has discovered opposable thumbs. His thumbs say everything.
